Acquiring and preserving movable cultural heritage in maritime history.

Article 2 of Executive Decree No. 07-233 dated June 30, 2007 establishing the National Maritime Museum states: “The museum is responsible for retrieving and acquiring objects and collections in the field of maritime cultural heritage and restoring and conserving them.”

The strategy of the National Maritime Museum for acquiring and holding movable cultural property (objects and collections) aims to include everything related to maritime cultural heritage from the prehistoric period onward, including:

Results of archaeological explorations on land and underwater
Antiquities such as tools, pottery, inscriptions, coins, weapons...
Objects of artistic importance such as paintings, drawings, manuscripts, and archival documents
Navigation and sea‑fishing tools
Old photographs, maps, and documents
Writings, engravings, and statues.
